Though she hails from Andhra Pradesh, a State which is not new to the activities of Naxals and other war groups, Sameera Reddy is not fully aware of them thanks to her urban brought up and living.

However, the actress is now fully equipped about the issue, so much that she could even conduct a seminar on Naxals and their theories. Thanks to the Naxalite role that she plays in ‘Red Alert: The War Within’. Based on a true story of a Naxalite, the film is directed by Anant Mahadevan.

“Ever since I have been roped in for the movie, I have been researching on these people. Anant had handed me a file on Naxalite reports which I studied besides watching television footage,” says Sameera.

“I play the role of Lakshmi, an ordinary girl who gets raped and turns to violence. Women Naxals have a tougher life than men and are usually more passionate about their cause. It is definitely a sensitive issue,” she adds.

Besides Sameera, ‘Red Alert: The War Within’ stars Suniel Shetty, Naseruddin Shah, Vinod Khanna, Bhagyashree, Ayesha Dharker, Seema Biswas, Gulshan Grover, Aashish Vidyarthi and others.

Bannered under Star Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the film released today (June 9).
